Abstract

Benign laryngeal lesions comprise different types: phonotraumatic lesions, minor structural alterations, papillomatosis, laryngitis, laryngeal paralysis, systemic pathology with laryngeal involvement. These conditions can lead to changes in the epithelium, connective tissue or cartilage tissue. The majority of patients present dysphonia as main complaint, with different characteristics (sudden or gradual, continuous or intermittent, worsening or not with vocal abuse) that may be associated with other symptoms such as dyspnea, cough, hoarseness, foreign body sensation. The diagnosis is based on clinical history, assessment of voice quality, physical examination and laboratory tests. Research in recent decades, facilitated the understanding of these diseases. Advances in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions have led to better outcomes in the treatment of patients with these diseases.

Biography

Dr. Alexandre Minoru Enoki is assistant in Otolaryngology at Beneficencia Portuguesa Hospital of Sao Paulo and Paulista Hospital. He obtained his MD in 2003, concluded his Postdoctoral training in 2007 and Postdoctoral Fellowship in Laryngology and Voice at University of Sao Paulo in 2009. He has publications in reputed journals and medical books. He attended National and International ENT Congresses as speaker.
