We report our experience with combined one-staged double-team maxillary sinus floor elevation (MSFE) and endoscopic
sinus surgery (ESS) procedure for concomitant sinonasal pathologies. Clinical records of all patients that underwent
MSFE in conjunction with ESS due to sinonasal pathologies between 2011 and 2013 were retrospectively reviewed. All
included patients had a sinonasal-related pathology that was confirmed clinically and radiographically by our combined team
comprised of otorhinolaryngology and maxillofacial surgeons. 15 combined surgeries were performed using either xenograftallograft
mixture or autograft-xenograft-allograft mixture. The study group included 7 males and 8 females, whose median age
was 55 years (range, 45-78 years). 7 patients underwent a unilateral and 8 patients underwent bilateral MSFE. During the same
session, 4 patients also underwent septoplasty for deviated nasal septum. 7 combined procedures were performed under active
infection. There were no intra-operative complications and all MSFE+ESS combined procedures were successful. 3 patients
required extended postoperative antibiotic treatment for persistent sinusitis. 1 patient reported infraorbital hypoesthesia. We
first report the promising outcomes of the double-team one-stage MSFE+ESS procedure performed by a combined team
including on patients presenting with an infection of the sinuses at the time of surgery.
