Abstract
Safety use of drugs is common theme for discussion. There are no pediatrics studies quantifying the Adverse Drug Events (ADE) and showing the outcome of these, which demonstrates the necessity of conducting more studies with this age group, always excluded from clinical research. The aim of this study was to conduct a prospective analysis of incidence of ADE and pharmacotherapeutical follow-up of pediatric patients admitted to emergency department. It is a prospective study during two months in a Referenced Emergency Unit. ADEs were identified, quantified and characterized in 6 categories (adverse drug reaction-ADR; noncompliance; therapeutic failure; medication errors; drug interactions; technical defect). Pharmaco-therapeutical follow-up of patients admitted with ADE realized on day of hospitalâs admission and 3 successive consults. During the study, 667 patients were attended, and 1.4% were admitted for presenting at least one ADE. Total number of ADE reported were 12, with an average of 1.3±0.5 events/ patient. Most common events were medication error (33.3%) and ADR (25.0%). The number of the Drug-Related Problems (DRP) per patient decreased from the first consult (4.3±0.6) until last one (1.8±0.4). Until the present moment, there is a small incidence of ADEs related to admission of pediatric patients. The lack of information and studies published in the area shows the need for stimulus to research and demonstrate problem of ADE in this population, resulting in effective actions for the rational use of drugs in this age group. It shows the influence of clinical pharmacist to guide on use of drugs.
